Welcome to the wiki of SchilliX.
SchilliX is an OpenSolaris based distribution which runs from CD and installs on your hard disk.
Introduction
Solaris is one of the most famous and stable Operating Systems for High-End Servers, but that is not the only use! One Big Advantage is that you can also use it on a "normal, run-of-the-mill" desktop PC.
From the point of view of normal desktop PC use, Solaris is one Operating System that exists in the big world of computers and is well known for very high stability. Solaris also includes numerous useful features used by developers.
Solaris on the desktop is very interesting and outstanding even for the majority of people who only want to use their computer for checking e-mails, surfing the Internet or doing any other kinds of desktop work.
OpenSolaris, and in this case, the SchilliX distribution are projects which will improve the use of Solaris on the typical desktop PC. These projects will show non-technical people that there is an operating system which is very useful for their work, while the more technically inclined users can help in programming a tool with the POSIX standard for people all over the world. OpenSolaris and the SchilliX distribution are free[1].
Solaris has been released as Open Source under the Common Development and Distribution License (CDDL) and SchilliX is a free distribution derived from the OpenSolaris source.
Download SchilliX and you will see the many advantages of the system and you will never want to go back!
